Al-Anon or Not?
Here’s a gentle reminder about sharing flyers of events in our meetings. There are many events, workshops, and retreats publicly presented as an Al-Anon event, workshop, or retreat. It can be confusing as to what is “ok” to share in our meeting and what is not. The Al-Anon / Alateen Service Manual has some great information on what is and isn’t Al-Anon (page 91-92, 134). The simplest way to decipher it is to simply read the flyer. If the flyer has language on it that attaches the event to a service arm (meeting / district / area), then it can be shared at our meetings. If, however, the flyer has no service arm attached to it, then it is not a sanctioned Al-Anon event. “Why do we care?” The explanation in the Service Manual is quite simple and understandable. If an event is attached to a service arm, we can be assured that the message will be an Al-Anon message. It is important to be consistent with the Al-Anon message and not “dilute” our fantastic program of recovery. We can be assured the event will use ONLY conferenced approved literature and stay true to the Al-Anon principles (page 114). These retreats can be fun and informative. They may even help in your personal recovery, but they are not Al-Anon. Al-Anon has no oversight or control of them, and they should stay out of our meetings. Outside of the Al-Anon meeting is another story.
Legacy Posters for Meetings
Here is the WSO link to the legacy posters that I hope will be displayed at every meeting in our district. They are $20 for four posters. Pre-pandemic meetings displayed the 12 steps and the 12 traditions. Your meeting can get poster frames at Walmart for $10 if you would like to display them that way.

Immediate Openings!
April 4, 2024 Hello District 10! We are in need of a few coordinators for our district. Please help find a member to step up for one of these positions. I found the best way to find someone is to go up to a person whom you know might be a good fit, and ask them personally. The following are all the coordinator positions open:
- Institutions: Our institutions coordinator had to step down. Ted S. is a long time institutions volunteer and has offered to help whomever steps up.
- Public Outreach: We are missing valuable opportunities to grow our fellowship while this position remains open.
- Diversity: Need I say more? We all know Al-Anon’s primary demographic, which does not reflect our area. If anyone has additional questions about the positions, please give them my number. Nicole E., D.R. District 10, (916)833-0346 – [email protected]
